Reconnect Program Lawyer - Oculus

Oculus seeks a highly motivated attorney for its virtual reality ecosystem who has taken a meaningful career break for personal or other reasons and is looking to participate in a 6-month program designed to help attorneys “onramp” back into the legal profession. This position provides global legal and regulatory advice and negotiates deals, with a focus on our platform software products. Success in this position will require applying a complex and evolving global legal and policy framework to new and innovative products and services. This is a unique opportunity to work on cutting-edge issues in a fast-paced start-up environment, as Oculus leads the field of virtual reality. This position is a temporary contractor position based in Menlo Park and will report to the Associate General Counsel, Platform.

Responsibilities

  • Be a generalist: support business objectives related to social, video, consumer products, e-commerce & payments, competition law, and privacy.
  • Evaluating issues associated with software licensing, open source, APIs, data privacy, and the general regulatory framework for consumer-facing software
  • Evaluating, drafting, and negotiating contracts relating to software products, services a nd integrations.
  • Build positive and influential relationships with executives, product teams and peers across Oculus and Facebook
  • Collaborate with subject matters experts at Oculus and Facebook to analyze and communicate legal risks.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 5+ years combined law firm or in-house experience with technology companies
  • Significant career pause to focus on personal responsibilities or other interests, who is now looking to return to the legal profession in some capacity
  • Passion for technology, innovation, and community

JD degree with membership in at least 1 state bar
