Materials Engineer I

The successful candidate will support polymer and composite materials related development projects, with sample preparation, testing and characterization, vendor engagement, custom test fixtures, system-level testing, implementing specifications. Testing and characterization techniques include FTIR, spectroscopy, surface energy, DMA, Instron, impact testing, hardness tester, microscopy etc.

 

Candidate should have good communication skills to work cross-functionally with simulations, product development, fabrication, tooling and reliability teams to support design optimization, testing and troubleshooting of materials issues. Must be able to understand technical direction from engineers for diverse projects/concept. Present data and findings periodically to cross functional teams.

Qualifications:

You must possess the below minimum qualifications to be considered for this position. Additional qualifications will be considered a plus factor for applicants. Materials related degree with 2+ years work experience or masters degree in materials, polymer science, plastics manufacturing, chemical engineering related field.

Requirements:

  • Support development for advanced polymers, composites, and coatings to improve product performance. Specific areas included but not limited to are thermals, structural and cosmetics.
  • Good understanding of thermal management for consumer electronics including mathematical modeling to down-select concepts.
  • Research and summarize new resins, composites, reinforcement, and additives. Support studies to develop new materials and advance existing products.
  • Lead analytical testing, material pilot studies and application testing trials of proposed formulation/concepts.
  • Translate product level requirements to material property requirements.
  • Develop CAD models for materials test coupons and fixtures
  • Interface with chemical/material suppliers to evaluate new offerings and leverage their development and capabilities.
  • Work with fabrication/prototyping team to build functional or looks-like prototypes to demonstrate the concepts
  • Perform failure analysis of materials
  • Should have basic understanding of statistical analysis and design of experiments.
  • Experience working on injection molding and coatings development for polymers and composites
  • Travel as needed to domestic and international suppliers, and third-party partners.

 

Position Summary: Support development and testing of polymer, composite and coating materials for AR/VR products.
