Today, Instagrammers can shop and browse products from retail businesses from their feed, on profile and in explore. In the future, we have ambitious plans to continue our efforts to strengthen relationships between people and the brands they love, by creating more opportunities—and simpler ways—to discover and explore products on Instagram.

Instagram is looking for a Product Researcher to help us better understand the needs of retail businesses who use our Shopping product and consumers who shop on our platform, gleaning insights to drive product direction and strategy. For this position, we are looking for a range from specialists to methodological generalists, with broad skills in qualitative and quantitative research methods.

The right candidate will be an excellent communicator, knowledgeable about user experience design and research, comfortable in a flat, fast moving organization, and passionate about shopping. This position is based in our New York City Office. 

 

Responsibilities

  • Design research studies that address behavior, attitudes, and needs of businesses and consumers on Instagram
  • Employ creative and innovative research methods to understand needs of businesses and consumers
  • Generate insights that fuel ideation and evaluate designs
  • Conduct research using a wide variety of qualitative methods and quantitative methods, such as surveys
  • Work cross-functionally with design, product management, content strategy, engineering and marketing
  • Communicate results and illustrate suggestions in compelling and creative ways

Minimum Qualifications

  • BA/BS degree in a human behavior related field (Human Computer Interaction, Psychology, Social Science, Information Science, etc.)
  • Command of qualitative and user-centered design methods, from ethnographic to usability to survey design and analysis
  • Ability to ask, as well as answer, business questions
  • Experience communicating with internal stakeholders including but not limited to Product Managers, Designers, Product Marketers, and Engineers
  • Must be willing to travel as project needs require

BA/BS degree in marketing, or a human behavior related field (HCI, Psychology, Social Science, Information Science, etc.) MA / PhD preferred. 5+ years experience in applied product research. Previous experience in e-commerce or business-side research a plus
