Support disaggregated and open Radio Access Network (RAN) architecture and infrastructure solution design development working closely with silicon, antenna, hardware manufacturing, software and system integration technology partners in the RAN domain.
Identify key use cases where AI/ML and Data Science technologies can be applied to the RAN domain to improve RAN’s performance, efficiency and TCO
Drive alignment and develop requirements for key AI/ML use cases spanning across RRM (Radio Resource Management), SON (Self Organizing Networks) and MaMIMO (Massive MIMO) in collaboration with Mobile Network Operators (MNO)
Publish requirements for various AI/ML use cases in TIP’s RAN Intelligence & Automation (RIA) subgroup
Collaborate with various industry bodies including O-RAN, ONF and OSC on development of architecture, requirements and open source solutions that enable third party AI/ML applications on RAN infrastructure
Drive efforts across industry bodies including TIP, O-RAN and ONF to develop open interface specifications and APIs to eliminate integration friction points
Develop robust plans with OpenRAN ecosystem partners to develop RU, DU, CU, RIC and xApps for Near-RT applications
Support RIA use case coordination of field/lab trial projects with wireless network operators and various OpenRAN ecosystem technology providers
Collaborate with cross-functional teams inside Facebook to track and report on connectivity goals across a portfolio of trials and activities including network planning, technology pilots and network deployments
Manage day to day execution of trial programs, agreeing plans with partner and FB stakeholders as necessary
Track key milestones and share key results, including KPIs, from various trials
Grow the technology partner ecosystem and foster strong participation from technology partners across various TIP RIA use cases
Support identification of key RAN use cases, business case gaps, and common technical requirements from operator partners to drive design parameters with the global technology vendor community
Previous experience (10+ years) and a proven track record in tech technology development in areas related to SON, AI/ML and/or Cellular (3G/4G/5G) technologies.
Strong personal interest in learning, researching, and creating new technologies with high commercial impact
Deep knowledge and expertise in SON technology
Experience with Machine Learning applied to wireless systems
Firm understanding of the telecom industry and ecosystem
Firm understanding of the use cases and business models that provide connectivity to end users, design trade-offs and common deployment and operational challenges.
Ability to develop common requirements in collaboration with multiple partners, drive alignment and adoption
Excellent communication skills and ability to speak to technical and business audiences including C-level
Excellent written communication skills to develop technical requirements that set industry standards
10+ years of experience executing wireless network infrastructure strategies, solutions development and/ or deployment plans.
Previous experience (8+ years) in tech business development, product management, or as a manager/engineer in R&D, technical marketing, solutions architecture, product engineering or consultancy services in areas related to RAN
Firm understanding of wireless telecom infrastructure, system architecture, network design principles, wireless spectrum bands coupled with expertise integrating hardware and software especially for radio access solutions.
Good understanding of the evolution and recent development of cellular 4G/5G networks including 3GPP standards (Rel-15/16) and in O-RAN Alliance.
Knowledge of wireless access industry, business, technology (2G/3G/4G/5G), regulatory environment and current challenges and opportunities.
Experience interfacing with multiple wireless access industry entities simultaneously, including operators, OEMs, suppliers, etc.
Ability to support and collaborate with cross functional teams. Develop and track project progress, RACI and granularly report the progress to all key stakeholders.
Ability to analyze and understand network performance results from network trials.
Excellent communication, interpersonal and collaboration skills. Strong Project Management skills.
Ability to travel up to 10-20%. International travel is required.
MS/BA/BSc/BEng or higher in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering field or equivalent degree/experience.
MBA is desirable but not essential
