Associate Policy Manager, Misinformation & Algorithmic Ranking (9891137)

Duties

Facebook is looking for a skilled Content Policy Associate Manager with experience in government, the public interest sector, or academia to join our Content Policy External Engagement team. Content Policy is the team that creates policies to govern what people can share on Facebook and how advertisers and third-party developers interact with the site.

 

In this role, you will be responsible for understanding the global landscape of Internet-related advocacy groups, academics, think tanks, and governmental and NGOs focusing on content ranking policies and mis/dis-information.

 

You will be responsible for understanding both Facebook and Instagram’s business priorities and help develop and execute strategies for engaging with thought leaders in relation to our product policies. You will help the team integrate external feedback into developing new policies to govern how Facebook moderates content in News Feed, Search, and elsewhere on Facebook. You will monitor our external relationships in key product policy areas and will seek opportunities to build productive alliances with our stakeholders.

 

The successful candidate will be an experienced communicator, savvy researcher, and presenter on issues related content ranking. This person will provide insights that contribute to the shaping of Facebook's external relations in the US and international markets, in relation to our product policies. You should be passionate about the services we provide and the people that we serve.

 

 

The ideal candidate will have a track record of undertaking policy issues related to algorithmic ranking, computational propaganda and online news/media ecosystem. Additionally, the successful candidate will have demonstrated knowledge of qualitative methods, experience researching and synthesizing knowledge on a variety of complex issues related to ranking policies. The ideal candidate should also have excellent drafting, communication, analytical skills, and project management skills.

This contractor position located at our headquarters in Menlo Park, California.

Responsibilities:

  • Help identify and document key external stakeholders working on policies related to health misinformation, algorithmic transparency, as well as news integrity
  • Craft and execute engagement strategies with advocacy groups, academics, think tanks, and governmental and NGOs in relation to Facebook's ranking policies.
  • Gather, synthesize and communicate external feedback on Facebook's product policies as part of our policy development process.
  • Identify and document key strategic opportunities for external engagement in relation to ranking policies
  • Monitor and synthesize key research and policy papers in relation to ranking and content distribution policies.
  • Build and maintain relationships with external stakeholders who have expertise relating to our product policies.
  • Represent Facebook's Product Policy team in external engagements.
  • Work cross-functionally with other teams at Facebook to increase transparency around our content policies and our approach to content moderation, including our use of automation.

Qualifications

Minimum 

  • 2+ years of work experience in policy, law, or government
  • Demonstrated experience in analytical-thinking, research and problem-solving
  • Experience working cross-functionally and consensus-building
  • Experience producing work product under deadlines for multiple audiences
  • Experience managing multiple complex projects simultaneously.

Preferred

  • Experience working for social media platforms, internet companies, other technology companies, government or think-tanks focusing on social media and content moderation
  • Experience articulating policy positions in external settings
  • Experience prioritizing projects and interacting with different levels, both internally and externally.

Education

  • Minimum: Bachelor's degree in Policy, Political Science, other social science, or related field of study,
  • Preferred: Advanced degree in public policy, law, business, computer science and/or journalism
